Simple Beauty

 Roses from my husband after a hard week. Sunshine through the window. And a sweet baby girl who’s not really a baby anymore. Looking at her on the day I took this she seemed so grown up with her hair in this little twist.

Advance Warning of Wrongdoing

My little Pixiedoodle has a very confessional spirit. One of the myriad things I love about her. She always comes and tells me when she does something wrong and lately she has begun telling me before she does something wrong.

She will say “Mama, can you please go away so I can ———-(insert questionable activity)?”

Won’t that be great when she’s a teen? Yes, I am counting on her hanging on to this characteristic. We young Mommies have to be optimistic.

December Roses

Happy December!

Finally, it is cold enough for this hat! But not too cold for roses…Their smell was especially pure in the brisk winter air.

When we were thoroughly rosy-cheeked and red-nosed we went and sipped hot chocolate at Panera. We missed you B&B and L!

Quoteable Boo

“Mama, chocolate mocak (milk drink) comes from the cow who jumped over the moon!” -I later realized that there is a jumping cow on the little chocolate milk boxes with a straw that I give her. Perhaps that was the origin of her discovery:)

 ”My socks are broken.” -Said very forlornly when I got her up from a nap and they were slipping off her little feet.

And here’s one I hope she never stops saying: “Lemme hold you a minute.” or  ”I pick you up?” when she means that she wants to be held.

Books Fall Open

Books fall open, you fall in,

delighted where you’ve never been;

hear voices not once heard before,

reach world on world through door on door;

find unexpected keys to things

locked up beyond imaginings.

Golden Sun

No. I am not accidentally posting photos from June. We wait a long while for winter around here and sometimes never get it. So we rejoice in what we do have - lots of sunshine!

And the fruits of their labor - clean shells and wet jeans:)

Sweetly Reasonable

It is so interesting how different approaches “work” with different kids. I think I have a new plan of action with the Pixie. Reason with her.

I have been trying to get her to take vitamins for a year and half. Every kind known to Target, Wal-mart, Walgreens etc. Liquid vitamins in myriad flavors, Flintstone vitamins, Gummi Bear vitamins…

My appeals to her that they were “so yummy” were met with stubborn pressed lips and raised eyebrows. “Please, for Mama”, “You’ll grow big and strong”, and the old crushing them and hiding them in various liquids technique also failed to impress her.

Since she eats lots of fruits and veggies it was not an issue I wanted to force but just kept trying different things. “Look! Mommy is eating one! Mmmm…I love it!”

Yesterday I explained to her in a conversational tone that her Doctor wants her to eat one every day so that she will stay well and not get coughs. Her little hand shot out - “I have one?” Flabbergasted, I gave her one and she popped it in her mouth and ate it. Then she said “The Doctor will be so proud and happy!”

 Well. There you go.

Little One

I got to hear our little one’s heartbeat today. What peace and joy and sense of connection hearing a tiny heartbeat brings. I am so grateful for this little treasure of a person.

 p.s. You should check out my husband’s great post on life lessons he is learning from the Pixie. http://blog.southcliffwest.com/?p=57

Quotable Boo

-“Yook (look) Mama! Two how new babies!”

By how new she meant newborn – completely her own invention. Kyle had been showing her how he used to swaddle her as a newborn, using two of her dolls. She was so excited to show me!

-“Just like a really big self!”

This was proclaimed proudly as I returned to the kitchen table to find her drinking tea out of my mug.
